Director-Head of Application Architecture
Our client, a major Investment Bank is seeking an ambitious and experienced leader to act as the head of Application Architecture for Legal and Compliance.
The head of Application Architecture will define, create, communicate and ensure adherence to architecture design, principles, guidelines and solutions across this division. The position will be responsible for determining requirements; ensure sufficiency of architecture requirements for top projects; shape direction by influencing vendors to meet Legal and Compliance mandates.
As head of Application Architecture you will be expected to define an overarching strategy for dynamic business, technology, and regulatory goals. This includes but is not limited to risk management, controls, compliance, HR, and other dimensions. Specific areas of focus include architecture solutions and roadmaps.
Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for managing the team of architects and create/update application strategy, target architectures and roadmaps
- Works with the IT organization and business units to obtain business requirements for performance and improvements to ensure the existing and future information systems are implemented according to the organization’s goals, needs and objectives
- Establishes the organization’s application structure, defining essential design features and providing a framework
- Required to prepare architectural design documentation, including diagrams and inventories
- Oversee building business plans, strategic direction, and standards for procedures and policies as they relate to IT application architecture
- Coordinates with the other architects on issues dealing with the quality flaws of the existing standards
- Monitors the emerging standards and sets the standards and technologies to be used by the enterprise
- Collaborates with staff, users and senior management on establishing business goals, reviewing new and existing IT projects, systems designs and plans, and conducting research on emerging technologies to support changes in infrastructure/application strategy
- Provides thought leadership in defining architecture direction and global multi-year road map
- Define architected approaches, frameworks and principles for enterprise-wide custom integration solutions w/ applications, services and processes that drive business results
- Participate in cross functional project planning activities to ensure project success
- Collaborate and partner with other Architecture disciplines (Technical, Information and IAM) reporting to the Legal and Compliance Chief Architect, to ensure consistent communication and alignment to all principles and standards fostered within those practices
- Participate in driving the communication, verbally and in writing to foster adoption of Architecture principles, standards, and best practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Information Sciences/Computer Sciences, or related degree.
- 10+ years experience with information modeling, information visualization, data modeling, data management technologies, data integration, data sourcing, data analytics, data warehousing, metadata, semantics and ontologies.
- Strong understanding of large scale system, information and technology architectures, including application integration patterns, messaging, service-oriented architecture, information models, and data lineage.
- 10+ years experience applying the above disciplines to real-world business problems, especially in the domains listed above.
- Experience defining relevant standards, processes, and best practices and incrementally deploying them within application areas in a controlled, evolutionary way that can serve as basis for all current and future projects within this group.
- Guide tech leads to create roadmap of target state architecture with intermediate states.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results under demanding timelines.
- Ability to define/manage detail project plans, milestones, manages deliverables; understand financial/budgetary impact of technical decisions.
- Strong writing and communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with business and technology partners, peers and senior management.
- Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders to drive success.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, methodologies, applications and grow with team.
- Knowledge of the Financial Services industry is highly preferred.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
