Senior Hadoop Developer/ Data Analyst

Summary:

Major Asset Management Firm is seeking a Sr. hands on, full life cycle Hadoop Developer to build their data environment from the ground up. Their Business Intelligence team is responsible for providing reliable and timely data that enables business units to make timely and informed business decisions.  They leverage close, collaborative working relationships with our business partners to apply technology solutions to a wide array of business problems and Bl/reporting needs As a Data Analyst Hadoop Developer with broad business impact, you will work directly with business partners to define requirements, then design and implement appropriate solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Respond to complex data inquiries spanning multiple data subject areas
• Translate business requirements into technical criteria and translate technical criteria into business jargon
• When request patterns emerge, design, develop and test self-help reporting solutions using various reporting tools
• Collaborate with colleagues within Financial Advisory IT as well as other technical groups across the Firm in the design and implementation of solutions to meet project goals
• Support the very diverse data and reporting needs of our Financial Advisory business

Qualifications:

• 6-10 years full-time development experience within data warehouse & reporting technologies
• 6-10 years’ experience in automated reporting presentation, architecture, and design
• Proven understanding with Hadoop, HBase, Hive, and Pig.
• Ability to write Pig Latin scripts .
• Hands on experience in HiveQL, Flume, Sqoop
• Knowledge of workflow/schedulers like Oozie.
• Analytical and problem solving skills, applied to Big Data domain
• Good knowledge in back-end programming, specifically java, JS, Node.js and OOAD
• Writing high-performance, reliable and maintainable
• Ability to write MapReduce jobs .
• Good knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, and practices .
• Good aptitude in multi-threading and concurrency
• Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI or Qlik is preferred
• Experience with successfully delivering complex solutions in tight timeframes that hit the mark on the initial delivery
• An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Information Management, Finance, Mathematics or related field experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Able to communicate effectively in business terms with business partners
• Effective self-management skills, in particular the ability to multitask and prioritize
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
